10/18/05 Toy Directory Monthly Staff Review Good for the whole family.

What Is It? It's a board game with a toady theme. You get a toad of a different color, and when your turn comes around, you spin not one, but two spinners (one's numbers, the other's colors). You then find a lily pad that matches the spun color, and a number on the lily pad. So far, so toady. If there are flies where you land, catch them and put them on your "home" log. First one to fill their log with six flies, wins. But ... there are some catches. You can get dumped into the pond. The dreaded bumblebee or another toad can send you back to your log, and if this happens, your flies go back to the lily pads, and you have to start over.

What We Thought Well, it was pretty easy to grasp the game, when the family sat down to play (with a 6 and an 8 year old). We spun, we caught flies, we got dumped in the pond, we lost our flies, someone won. We played another game, and had some more toady fun. It was a pleasant game that occasionally got bloodthirsty when one of the boys knocked the other's toad about. We got into a discussion about the differences between toads and frogs, amphibians and reptiles, and one of the boys (the older) wanted to play the game with real toads. A good time was had by all, and it was voted a keeper.

Why They'll Want It It's a deceptively fun game, and one of the few games that can truly span the 4 to 8 year old gap. Normally what's good for a 4 year old is too young for the 8 year old, or what's fine for the 8 year old is too tough for the 4 year old. Toads of Fun was great for everyone. Its very simplicity makes it addictive. It's all about the spinners, and the tides of the play can change at any moment, so there's nothing predictable about it. Good for the whole family.

"This adorable family-fun board game will quickly become a favorite in your home as your children will play it again and again. The key here is that TOADS of FUN is so easy to learn, that you'll be spinning the unique double spinner (no dice here), and jumping around lily pads looking for flies to gobble in no time. What players really liked was that the direction of the game (who is winning and losing) can radically change from one moment to the next. The graphics inside are quite cute, granted the outside needs some work, but don't let that deter you, this game is a whole lot of fun."

Get off my lily pad!
The makers of Toads Of Fun have found the way to keep learning and fun at the highest pinnacle, while still keeping it simple. This game is charming in character, easy to understand and follow, for all ages, and a lot of fun for all of those who join in a game. Spinning, color matching, number matching ... all of the things younger children love are a part of this game. They will also love the cute Frogs and the competition involved. One wrong move and you start all over ... and the fun resumes ...
In this game you spin two spinners, not the typical one. By matching colors and numbers, you find which lily pad to move to. If there are flies on that lily pad, they become yours and add to your pile of flies on your log. Once you get six, you win. However ... it may not be that simple! Look out for the splash! Another frog, or a bee might spring into action and that splash may knock you off of your lily pad and place all of your flies either back on the lily pad or on to an opponents log ... then you have to start all over...
This is where a simple little game becomes more of a challenge.
Simple in nature and construction, fun to play - we call this a winning combination. A combination we think your children will enjoy. The construction is durable, pieces hold up well (as long as the baby or dog do not get ahold of them, as they are made of cardboard material) ... and a game your child will enjoy as much as Candyland or the other similar kids games.
Another great feature is the people at Toads of Fun (Dad's Ink) are wonderful and there if you have a question or a problem. Easy to reach and there to fully back their products. We know you will enjoy doing business with them. In today's world, customer service is treasured and you will find it here.

Review by Gwen, Homeschool Mom & Review Staff Member:

Toads Of Fun was a blast for the kids, as they sat down at the playmat for Playdate.
I ran them through the first run of the game, to show them how it was to all work ... after that I left them to play on their own and they picked right up on it with no questions asked.
What I heard from them on was laughing, giggling, things like "OH!" (when someone got sent back to their log) ... and they had an enjoyable time. Every time I peeked in to check on them, they were totally content and enjoying the fun and the competition it inspired.
They played 3 games before they moved on to something else. This may not seem like much to you, but you have not been with these children. For them to sit content through three games of anything, speaks highly. They normally are wanting to move on to something new in the middle or after one session.
If this game can impact them into meaningful play for three sessions this mom says it's a winner!
Thanks, Toads Of Fun ! We will enjoy many more game times I am sure!
